Bring the ocean closer
Deep Water is a mobile experience concept inspired by the quiet, unfamiliar world beneath the surface. The brief was to create a digital introduction to marine life that invites exploration through imagery, concise storytelling and a clear visual hierarchy.
The direction begins with a single encounter: a translucent jellyfish suspended against a dark screen. Its delicate structure becomes the focus, giving the experience a sense of depth without filling the interface with competing elements.
Let the subject lead
The visual language pairs deep black surfaces with pale typography and the subtle colour of underwater life. The jellyfish brings texture and detail to an otherwise restrained composition. Space around it allows both the image and the message to register.
Typography provides a human scale. Short passages sit close to the imagery, encouraging a moment of attention before the next interaction. The opening screen establishes the atmosphere; supporting content can then introduce species, habitats and the stories behind them.
Give each marine subject a clear focal point.
Keep introductory copy short and readable on a small screen.
Use contrast and spacing to distinguish storytelling from navigation.
Carry the same visual hierarchy across different screen proportions.
Design for a more deliberate encounter
The proposed experience follows a simple sequence: discover a subject, open its story and explore related content. An image provides the invitation, while names, brief descriptions and clear controls help visitors choose where to go next.
The device presentation extends the idea of discovery beyond the interface. A partially open phone appears balanced above an outstretched hand, giving the composition a sense of lightness. The neutral background draws attention to the dark display and the marine life within it.
This relationship between physical gesture and digital content informs the interaction direction. Transitions should preserve the subject as the focal point, with restrained movement and a clear return path. A still version should communicate the same story when animation is reduced.
The layout direction also considers changes in available screen space. Images retain their prominence, text keeps a comfortable reading width and controls remain easy to identify as the format changes.
A foundation for immersive storytelling
A small screen. A deeper perspective.
The concept defines an art direction, a mobile visual language and a structure for image-led marine stories. Shared rules for typography, contrast, spacing and image placement provide a consistent starting point for additional screens.
The next stage would test the reading flow, navigation and transitions with real content. The design objective is a coherent experience in which visual atmosphere draws people in and clear information gives them a reason to continue exploring.
